Create and Manage Promotional Discounts

A complete guide to creating, configuring, and tracking promo codes in WanderOS to drive direct bookings, reward loyalty, and run targeted campaigns.

What can I do with Discounts?

The Discounts tool lets you create custom promo codes for your direct booking site. Use it to drive conversions, reward repeat guests, target new guests, and run focused marketing campaigns.

Capability

What it lets you do

Customization

Build promo codes as a percentage off or a fixed dollar amount.

Control

Set usage limits, expiration dates, and per-guest restrictions.

Targeting

Apply discounts portfolio-wide, restrict to specific listings, or limit to new guests only.

Scope

Apply the discount to the full booking amount or restrict it to night rates only.

Transparency

Discounts appear as line items on guest invoices and are trackable in your dashboard.

How do I access Discounts?

  1. Log in to app.wander.com.

  2. In the left sidebar under Finance, click Discounts.

The Discounts page opens with a search bar, a status filter, and a table of all your codes. Each row shows:

Column

What it shows

Name

Internal name, the promo code tag, the discount value, and properties it applies to.

Status

Active or inactive.

Start date

Date and time the code became active.

End date

Expiration date or N/A if no end date is set.

Redeemed

Current redemptions vs. cap (e.g., 1 / 1) or total count if uncapped.

How do I create a discount?

  1. Click Create discount in the top right.

  2. Fill in the New discount form:

Field

Detail

Discount name

Shown on the guest's invoice (e.g., Welcome Code).

Discount code

What guests enter at checkout. Uppercase letters and numbers only. Click Generate code to auto-create one.

Discount amount

Choose Percentage or Fixed amount and enter the value.

Apply discount to

All properties (auto-includes future listings) or Specific properties.

Discount start

Now or Scheduled time.

Discount end

Until manually disabled or Scheduled time.

  1. Configure Settings toggles (all optional):

Setting

What it does

Limit to one use per guest

A given guest can redeem the code only once.

Limit the number of redemptions

Hard cap on total redemptions across all guests (not per guest).

Restrict to new guests

Available only to guests with no completed bookings.

Apply to night rates only

Discount applies to nightly rate only, not cleaning fees or other charges.

  1. Click Create discount to make the code live on checkout.

What does the guest see at checkout?

  1. The guest enters the promo code into the discount field on your checkout page.

  2. WanderOS validates the code in real time and applies the deduction.

  3. The updated total and the discount line item appear immediately on the invoice.

How do I view or end an active discount?

Click any row on the Discounts page to open the detail drawer. You'll see:

  • Details: Status, code, amount, properties it applies to, start date, end date, and redemption count (e.g., 1 / 1 times).

  • Settings: A read-only summary of all the toggles you configured (one use per guest, redemption cap, new-guest restriction, applies to full booking or night rates only).

  • End discount button: Click to deactivate the code immediately. Past redemptions remain in the dashboard, but no new guests can use it.

What technical limits should I know about?

  • No stacking. Guests cannot combine multiple promo codes on a single reservation.

  • Direct site only. Codes apply only to bookings on your WanderOS direct site. They do not apply to bookings made on wander.com or other third-party platforms.

  • Cancellations restore inventory. If a booking using a discount is cancelled, the redemption count for that code is automatically reversed.

  • Inactive properties show in the dropdown. Inactive listings may still appear in the property selector when configuring rules. Double-check you're targeting active properties only.

  • Codes are uppercase only. WanderOS enforces uppercase letters and numbers for all promo codes.

Best Practices

  • Use clear naming conventions. Descriptive internal names (e.g., Q3 Email Subscriber Promo) make it easy to match performance to campaigns later.

  • Cap redemptions on public codes. Set the redemption limit on any code you share publicly to avoid runaway use.

  • Use Restrict to new guests for acquisition campaigns. Prevents existing guests from claiming a discount meant to attract first-timers.

  • Use Apply to night rates only when fees are high. Keeps your cleaning and platform fees whole while still offering a meaningful incentive.

  • Schedule, don't scramble. Use the Scheduled time start date to pre-load seasonal campaigns instead of creating codes the morning of.

  • Track ROI per code. Assign a unique code to each marketing channel (email, social, partner) so you can attribute bookings accurately.

  • Audit expired codes monthly. Use the status filter to clean up old codes and keep your dashboard manageable.

  • Test before sharing. After creating a code, run through your own checkout to confirm the discount applies correctly before distributing it.
